Vocations Guide to Priesthood
At the request of the Bishop a special homily, concerning the priesthood and religious life, is preached on a particular Sunday throughout the diocese during which the parishioners are invited to pray and seek enlightenment during the following seven days as to who they think amongst their fellow parishioners might make a good and holy priest or religious. Whilst it is true that not everyone is called to live the life of a priest or religious, it is nonetheless an acknowledged fact that there are many today who are called by name, and sadly, for a variety of reasons do not answer the call.
It is worth remembering that our future priests and religious may be sitting alongside us at Sunday mass, we simply overlooked their potential in the past. These “Samuels”, our future priests and religious, can be found disguised as: Liturgical Ministers: altar servers, lectors, Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion, Musicians, Primary and Secondary Teachers and Catechists, Members of the Parent Teacher Associations, Youth leaders, Scouts, Prayer Groups and the sundry other groups in the parish. Never overlook the many young (and “youngish”), single Catholics around who are prayerful, generous and involved in the parish and wider community.
The parishioners would then be invited not only to place the name of any nominated individual(s) on pre-printed cards in the following Sunday’s liturgy as the collection basket is circulated throughout the church, but also to pray for the nominated parishioners that they may have the courage to respond to their particular vocation in life.

religious vocation, and I feel that Jesus may be calling
this individual to become a labourer in His vineyard.
